Due to a cancellation, this event was put together in record time, resulting in one of our favorite events of the year. The community of Bogalusa, Louisiana rolled up their sleeves and really showed us a tremendous level of support. With a powerful escort into town involving over twenty first responder vehicles, and a rapid set up thanks to the JROTC students of Bogalusa High School (the location for this event), signs that this was going to be special were very apparent. Bogalusa is where fallen 4th AAV BN Corporal David “Bear” Stewart was from. Everyone we met shared stories of Bear and took us around town to some of his favorite places, and to a powerful memorial that overlooks a river that he used to frequent. It was also great to spend so much time with Bear’s family and to bring a level of healing to this incredible town. We can’t wait to return in the future!
