Our final stop on our California tour took us to beautiful Ventura College, in viewing distance of the Pacific Ocean. This was the second event put together in record time with the help of Bruce McFadden and the staff at the college. Another escort welcomed us from Oxnard where many students were on hand to not only help us install the exhibit but to take in what we brought to the community. Special thanks also goes to Ernie Hedberg, a former Seabee and current Navy recruiter who not only volunteered at the last three stops on the tour, but took us around the area and became a great friend in the process. One of the most powerful moments we have had in our history happened on opening day. Rick Estrada, a Marine who served in the same area as Lima Company in 2005, paid us a visit where he got to meet our own Mike Strahle for the first time. Rick was partially responsible for a rapid evacuation of casualties during a May 2005 IED blast, which Mike was on. The evacuation helped save Mike’s life. What a powerful way to end the last stop on the tour.
