Coming from a great Tour in Minnesota, The Eyes of Freedom makes its official debut in the state of Iowa by entering the Quad Cities’ Daveport, IA. Our hosts for the week would be the proud Marines of Illowa 102, a Marine Corps League Detachment based in Davenport, IA. One of their members and the reason for our invite is Ky Soucinek, a member of another military non-profit called “Always Brothers” whom the Eyes of Freedom has had the pleasure of working several events in the past.
We entered Iowa with a full motorcycle escort that turned a lot of heads in Davenport. The media was on hand right away to cover our arrival and inform the public about our mission. Director Mike Strahle was invited to “Paula Sands Live” to discuss the Memorial and the event being held, as well as joining “Dwyer and Michaels” on their morning radio program on 97X.
Thousands came from all over the quad cities to view the Memorial, and our event was capped off on the last day with the arrival of the National Veterans Awareness Ride; a motorcycle escort and tribute ride that begins in California and travels the entire country ending in Washington, DC for Memorial Day weekend. This national ride would be our escort from Iowa to DC, and what a ride it was! Many thanks to the NVAR for taking such good care of The Eyes of Freedom Memorial Team.
