Text Box: Honoring The Fallen Marines

Text Box: The Lima Company Memorial Team has been very busy working towards the “Big Day” on Friday, May 23, 2008, when the portraits will be installed at the Ohio Statehouse.  Anita and Liz Bravender, LCM project planner, met with Senate President Bill Harris to discuss his commitment to be a featured speaker at the memorial installation.  Senator Harris is a former U.S. Marine, who served in the Korean War as a machine gunner and a platoon commander. After Korea he attended the US Army Counterintelligence School, and then served the remainder of his 23-year career with the USMC as an intelligence and counterintelligence officer, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. Senator Harris retired from the military as a Major with numerous decorations for valor and outstanding service, including two Bronze Star awards and the Vietnam Medal of Honor First Class.  To learn more about our esteemed Senator click here.

Text Box: Going to the studio each day I am moved by the contrast of the coldness of the air and the warmth of the faces and paintings of the Lima Company Fallen. I have heard so many people say when they are standing with the paintings that they feel the presence of these Marines. I believe these paintings create a thin place in the veil, by the power of the Holy Spirit. The more I paint, the more I feel the connection between them and us. They continue to work together to bring healing and peace to their loved ones, their country and the world. I invite you to the studio to see the paintings in progress as they develop more fully each day.  From the Lima Company Memorial Team, we hope that you had a loving and powerful holiday season, and we pray that the veil between heaven and earth continues to thin more each day, allowing us the grace to see the miraculous in the New Year.
 In Christ's Love,
Anita Miller, Artist of the Lima Company Memorial

Text Box: Five of the eight portraits are now complete and the sixth and seventh portraits are in progress.  Anita has spent a great deal of time in her research and information gathering when making the decision on the marine featured in each panel.  Decisions have been based upon conversations with the families and with returning Marines.  To see the full name and rank of each of the men and a photo click here.

Text Box: Anita spoke to students from Heritage Middle School on Friday, November 9, 2007 about the Lima Company Memorial.  The Newark Advocate newspaper reported the story in their Saturday, November 10, 2007 edition.  The LCM team plans to create lesson plans and make them available to school teachers.  Share this newsletter with your local school. Schools should plan a field trip to the Ohio Statehouse Capital to see the exhibit in the fall of 2008! The exhibit will be at the statehouse until Veterans Day, 2008.  To see the entire article, click the following link: http://www.newarkadvocate.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007711100310
